SS21 BATS

SS21 BATS - Broadband Acoustic Transmission System

Overview

The Broadband Acoustic Transmission System (BATS) utilizes a broadband flextensional transducer incorporated into a portable acoustic system that can be transported, installed, deployed, and operated by a single person. The BATS™ has many attractive features for experimental work at sea and finds use in a number of naval, commercial, and scientific research applications.

SS21 can be powered by either line voltage (110 or 220 VAC) or a 12-volt marine battery. Weighing an average of 27 kg, the battery accounts for a full 50% of the entire weight of the system. Its portability is a great advantage for small seagoing vessels like sailboats, inflatable boats, and even ocean canoes.

BATS™ 21 System

Description of the BATS System

The BATS21 system is powered by a 12-volt deep-cycle marine battery. Battery operation is an advantage for small seagoing vessels such as sailboats, inflatable boats and even ocean canoes.
The BATS amplifier and control system is housed in a compact control console. The system accepts signals from a wide variety of sources that include audio components such as cassette and minidisk players, Mp3 Files, CD players, PC sound cards, and signal synthesizers. Acoustic output is controlled by adjusting the input signal to the amplifier. The signal is coupled to the transducer through an output transformer. A filter at the input of the amplifier facilitates the emulation of the inverse TVR profiles of the flextensional transducer and permits limited control over the flatness of the transducer response.
A cable and reel connect the transducer to the control box. In its current configuration, 30 meter (100 feet) of cable is included with the system. Custom configurations are also available.

The BATS system provides a 1-14 kHz operating frequency band.
The BATS source level at any given frequency in the band is limited to about 165 dB/1µPa-m.

The control box is supplied in a sturdy Pelican® case that provides safe and waterproof transportation and storage. The unit must be removed from the case during operation to avoid overheating.
BATS can be customized to meet your frequency and power requirements while remaining compact and easy to operate. Other transducers can also be used with this system. Contact Tech Support or download the specification sheet for more details.
